Rijeka Airport welcomed record passenger!

13.11.2018
On 11.10.018. Rijeka Airport has welcomed its record 170,000 passenger! The jubilee passenger is Percinić Marija from the island of Rab, and was recorded on the regular international flight of Eurowings EW2963 Rijeka-Stuttgart.
The traffic of 170,000 passengers in one year is accomplished for the first time in the history of Rijeka Airport. Previous record was 169,250 passengers in 2006.
In commemoration of the jubilee in the system, Zlatko Komadina, Mayor of Primorje-Gorski Kotar county, and his Deputy Marko Boras-Mandić, CEO of Kvarner Tourist Board, Irena Peršić Živadinov, together with the CEO of the Rijeka Airport, Tomislav Palalić, donated to the jubilee passenger a gift voucher of the Eurowings and the gift package of the Primorje-Gorski Kotar County and Rijeka Airport.
However, before the scrapping of the entire yearly traffic record, Rijeka Airport has also achieved record passenger traffic at the level of all months of this year. In all the months of 2018, record passenger traffic was recorded, and for the first time in history for 2 consecutive months (July and August) this year over 40,000 passengers were transported per month.
This significant increase in passenger traffic, among other things, is the result of many activities, efforts and financial resources that Rijeka Airport in cooperation with the Primorje-Gorski Kotar County, the Ministry of the Sea, Transport and Infrastructure, the Ministry of Tourism, CNTB and Kvarner Tourist Board, invested in the introduction of new airlines in 2018. (regular lines for Frankfur with Condor and Ryanair, Eindhoven withTransavia and Berlin with Laudamotion, and charter line for Paris with Enter Air), as well as extending the flight season for existing routes. And of course, this fantastic result was definitely contributed to the introduction of a regular all-year international line for Cologne with Eurowings, which also operated whole winter in 2008 twice a week, with the A319 aircraft with a capacity of 144 seats.
In the upcoming winter, also two international routes are confirmed: Dusseldorf with Eurowings and Munich with Croatia Airlines. There will also operate a constant domestic line for Osijek, Split and Dubrovnik with Trade Air.
There are currently negotiations for the introduction of additional routes next season 2019, but for now are confirmed 2 new charter lines for London and Manchester with TUI, and a significant extension of this year's new route for Eindhoven throughout the whole season (from April to October), which represents an increase in operations for over 300%.
Therefore it can be concluded that 2019 will be new record year for Rijeka Airport, but 2018 will remain recorded as one of the most successful in the history since more than 180,000 passengers are expected by the end of this year. This represents an increase of almost 30% compared to 2017, and this growth represents the highest percentage growth among all airports in the Republic of Croatia in 2018.
